GitHub Release Check

Fetch a public repository’s latest release and extract version, publication date, and download links.

Setup

  1. Download the workflow JSON from this page (or use workflow.json from the builder package), then choose n8n's Import from File command.
  2. Replace the owner/repository segments of the URL in FetchLatestRelease with your public GitHub repository. Execute the workflow and inspect the version and url. For private repositories or higher rate limits, configure your own GitHub credential in n8n.
  3. Select Execute Workflow. The result is in ProcessData.

Behavior and limits

Uses GitHub’s latest-release endpoint, not a comparison against your installed version. It does not install updates or persist release history. Missing releases, rate limits, and other HTTP errors fail the run for review.

The supplied example needs no credentials. Any additional integration you connect requires its own configuration and tests.

Verification

Imported and executed successfully in an isolated n8n 2.44.5 instance on 2026-10-22. The live n8n GitHub repository returned release metadata. An unreachable API endpoint stopped execution with a connection error.

Failures appear in the n8n execution view; this template does not send error alerts. Review the output before connecting downstream actions.
